You’re getting married! If you’re in the process of deciding between a wedding at home and a destination wedding, we hope this post will help you decide! A destination wedding in the Adirondacks is wonderful for a complete variety of reasons, including the obvious one that they offer the unique opportunity to spend even more time with your guests in a fun setting. Friends and family members will be staying in vacation homes or hotels, dining together, and hoping to explore the area. And, that’s all in addition to attending your wedding! It feels like the best of so many worlds.
Now, we have to say, we love destination weddings no matter where they occur. But, we do have to admit that we’re the most biased to destination weddings hosted in our beautiful area of Lake George, the home of The Promise Gardens.
Lake George is nestled in the heart of the Adirondacks. The vistas, settings, and amenities in our city are second to none, in my opinion, and I love when couples and their guests opt to experience all our area has to offer throughout their wedding weekend.
To offer a peek into what you can expect during a destination wedding at The Promise Gardens and Lake George, we’re sharing how to get here, where to stay, and what you can expect to experience while you’re here. Keep reading!
HOW TO GET TO LAKE GEORGE
If you’re within driving distance to Lake George, arriving by car is always an option. But, many of our couples and their guests live a bit further away. Plan to fly into Albany, New York. We’re a quick one hour drive away from the airport, so you will be in Lake George in no time at all.
WHERE TO STAY FOR YOUR DESTINATION WEDDING IN THE ADIRONDACKS
Because Lake George is in the Adirondacks, there are a plethora of vacation homes available. A home serves as a great way to stay together with your wedding party, plus it offers a great economical option for families wishing to stay together for the weekend. The best site to visit to view and book homes in Lake George is VRBOs- these rental houses in Thurman, NY (super close to the venue) and these rental houses in nearby Lake George, NY are fantastic options!
Another option is, of course, to stay in one of our many hotels. The Marriott, Holiday Inn, and The Grand Hotel are a few of the ones I suggest the most. Something they all have in common is their proximity to the main streets in Lake George where many of the best restaurants and shops are located. Another great bonus is each is also close to wineries and the docks where you can meet for a boat ride on the lake.
We also love The Sagamore as a luxury option on Bolton side. If you love to be pampered (messages, saunas, hair and makeup), you’ll love staying at The Sagamore. If you want to have a bridal bunch or farewell party to make it a weekend and really immerse yourself in the destination experience, it’s a wonderful option!
WHAT TO DO DURING A DESTINATION WEDDING WEEKEND IN THE ADIRONDACKS
The main event during your destination wedding weekend will be your wedding! Though the Adirondacks have a few barn venues from which to choose, The Promise Gardens is actually the only wedding venue located in the heart of Lake George.
Ask your guests to arrive at least the day before your wedding. Plan to visit a winery for a tasting together as a group, take a boat ride on the lake, and gather in the evening for your rehearsal dinner in town. There are such great restaurants and pubs here!
There are a variety of wonderful locations for your rehearsal dinner nearby as well! We want to be able to help you enjoy the entire weekend, so when the time comes to start planning all the extra details surrounding the big day, our venue experience coordinator will happily make recommendations!
On your wedding day, enjoy views of the lake while you’re sipping mimosas and enjoying hair and makeup. Once you’re ready, arrive at The Promise Gardens to recite your vows during your ceremony and dance the night away on the dance floor with your guests. After the final song plays, rejoin your crew back in the heart of Lake George for your after-party.
By the way- we can help you arrange to shuttle back to town after your reception so that you can enjoy many of the amazing options and arrive safely!
Before guests depart the next day, host everyone one more time for a farewell brunch. If your family and friends have extra time, encourage them to enjoy the shops and sights of Lake George during a relaxing afternoon.
Our area of New York is such a wonderful respite for those who typically live and work in cities, and we love welcoming couples and their guests to our home city by the lake. To us, few places are more fun, relaxing, and beautiful, and we cannot wait to guide you while you plan your destination wedding weekend at The Promise Gardens.
We will work with you to ensure their wedding weekend is perfect! We’re here to guide you through the process and help you every step of the way. Contact us today to talk about the options!
